Have you ever stood in the doorway of a room and felt the room “just wasn’t right” but couldn’t lay your finger on the problem? Have you ever moved to a new home and been perplexed about furniture placement because of all the doors and windows? Maybe you’re just tired of the same old look, or getting a good night’s sleep is a problem. A make-over can fix these things! Frequently, the look you want may be achieved by re-arranging what you already have, thereby creating a more attractive, welcoming and functional environment. Believing strongly in the power of Feng Shui, Ann includes its principles in all her work. Why not throw in a bit of good luck?

The couple wanted to add a family room
area to this otherwise “spread–out” home office. By moving the
office to one end of the 30 x 16 foot room, we had ample space for
the addition of sofa, chairs and coffee table. The efficiently
planned and spacious office is neatly concealed behind the plants
backing the sofa. The homeowners spent no money to create this redo
except for the sofa! |

The lady of
this house complained of never getting a full nights sleep. The
bedroom was large with few soft surfaces, not enough closets, and
beams over the bed. We added a closet, painted the room a soothing
terra cotta, and installed a romantic canopy over the bed to conceal
the beams. Changing the throw pillows added more visual interest and
replacing the upright chair in the corner for a comfy reading chair
made a big difference.

This doctor wanted a total change in his home office for a more modern look. There is a wonderful teal color in the oriental carpet which we brought out for the walls. His favorite picture surveys the new office from its home on the wall.

The clients told me they wanted a great looking powder room, but also "fun"! Interpreting the word "fun" as "whimsical" we painted the bottom in beige gold, yellow gold and black stripes. A large metal butterfly sits on the left wall and smaller butterflies have been stenciled in "gold leaf" around the room. The mirror, which had boringly covered the entire wall, was replaced by a simple black oval mirror. A fun room, indeed!

I received a frantic call from a past client saying, “ Every time I get to the doorway of my room I get a knot in my stomach. Something is very wrong with this room and I need your help.” The interior designer she employed had unknowingly created a feng shui nightmare! The two large dark hutches which were to serve as nightstands were too powerful for the space and were triggering her fight or flight impulse! They had to go- and so did the Batman headboard. We turned the headboard upside down, draped two luxurious fabrics on the wall behind the bed, eliminated the hutches and gave her a round table covered in a complementing silk fabric. New lamps completed the mood for a good night's sleep and pleasant dreams. |
